'Femto-cataract surgery highly recommended' by Thomas Reimann

My ordeal began in November 2019. Even then, I noticed a haze over my right eye. This worried me more and more. I mostly searched for my symptoms online and also looked at doctor reviews. Friends just said, "Let's get it done abroad because of the cost." But I wanted to have it done locally and found the DOmed Eye Clinic online.

At first, I read something about private and self-pay options. Always keeping in mind that I wanted better lenses than what the statutory health insurance would cover anyway. Then, on the clinic's website, I saw the list of certified ophthalmologists in Dortmund. Shortly after, I made an appointment.

At the practice itself, I was given eye drops and prescribed lubricating drops. At my next appointment, my suspicion of cataracts was confirmed. The ophthalmologist also immediately arranged for me to have cataract surgery at the DOmed Eye Clinic.

After just one week, I had my preliminary examination there. I have to say, the staff and the overall atmosphere calmed my initial anxiety. I had planned to have cataract surgery and laser surgery in the other eye. But during the examinations, cataracts were diagnosed in both eyes. So, I had to get two new lenses.

Thanks to Mr. Weber's careful consultation, I knew I wanted premium lenses. And based on my own research and advice, I wanted the surgery to be performed with the femto laser. Naturally, it involves additional costs. But I must say, it was and is worth every cent. It's a lifelong investment.

For the first surgery, further examinations were required. After a short wait, I was seated before the operating room. There were even lockers for valuables.

Then the anesthesiologist opened the sliding door. I thought, oh my God, here we go. But my pulse was 65, so I was completely relaxed. He discussed the methods with me and explained them to me. In the end, I decided on an intravenous drip.

As I lay on the couch, I was given a few drops to numb my eye and simply felt at ease. With my eyes closed, I was wheeled into the operating room. I remember calming music playing, just like in the office before. One eye was taped, my face was covered, and disinfected. I heard some voices.

After a few minutes, I was asked to open my affected eye and briefly saw the laser and Dr. Asani. Mr. Asani inserted the eyelid splint, and the laser gently applied itself to my eye. So, I didn't notice anything at all. If anyone asks me what it was like, all I can say is, it was a constant play of colors. The best part was definitely while the new lens was being inserted. It looked like blue sky with a few clouds. After what felt like 10 minutes, it was over. I was given an eye patch on the operated eye and was able to fortify myself with a roll and coffee afterwards. The second operation went quite smoothly, too.

Conclusion: I highly recommend cataract surgery with the femtolaser. When it comes to anesthesia, everyone has to decide for themselves. I am extremely satisfied with the clinic.
