The eye can be compared to a camera. The cornea corresponds to the front lens of the camera lens, the iris corresponds to the pupil of the lens aperture, and the retina corresponds to the film in the camera. Just as a camera lens creates a sharp image of its surroundings, the interaction of the cornea, pupil, and lens in the eye creates a sharp image on the retina. Focusing, which in a camera is achieved by rotating the lens or autofocus, is achieved in the normal eye by an automatic deformation of the lens.

In normal-sighted eyes, the optical system deflects the incoming light rays (images) so that they converge at a focal point precisely on the retina (usually the point of sharpest vision). This deflection is called refraction. The different components of the eye's optical system result in the total refractive power, which is measured in diopters (D). If this refractive power is correct, the images are projected sharply onto the retina. However, if the focal point is not exactly on the retina, but rather behind or in front of it, we see our surroundings blurred. In these cases, we speak of refractive error.
A refractive error is diagnosed by an optician or ophthalmologist through a prescription. A refraction test determines the best refractive power for your glasses or contact lenses.
Refractive surgery is recommended to correct refractive errors. At German Eye Clinic Tirana, we offer a variety of treatment options. These include Premium Femto-LASIK , intraocular contact lenses, and refractive lens exchange. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call us on 0800 199 0000.
